Bowery Boy Blue: Bio

Bowery Boy Blue

• Bowery Boy Blue’s official beginning can be traced back to the winter of 2005 when Zeb Gould released the five song EP Bowery Boy Blue Gives the Kids What They Want, on the NYC-based Space Photo Records (SPR-LTD 004). However, the release of the EP and the subsequent shows that followed were the culmination of the years prior to 2005, in which Gould, newly arrived in New York City, began writing songs and releasing albums under the moniker Stereofan with his partner in crime (and now wife) Megan Gould. The two self-released four albums in just under one year before signing on with the Chicago based label Lelp Recordings to release their first official CD Stain My Heart (Lelp 1985) in early 2005.
• It is around this time, mid 2005, when a subtle shift in songwriting led Gould to a new project and a new identity, Bowery Boy Blue. Although mostly an acoustic project at it’s outset, it quickly became apparent that more saturated sounds and textures were close at hand.
• Following a solo release of American Primitive style acoustic guitar compositions (All of the Morningbirds, SPR 819), and a second full length Stereofan CD (You Can’t Go Home Again, SPR 821), Gould began writing the songs that would comprise the bulk of the latest Bowery Boy Blue offering, Stalk That Myth.
• Armed with these new songs, Zeb and Megan Gould, along with longtime friend and collaborator Sam Crawford, headed to Chicago to record the album at Steve Albini’s recording studio, Electrical Audio, in August of 2007. They were fortunate to be joined by a talented cast of characters for the session, including Jason Toth (Edith Frost, Manishevitz, The Zincs) on drums and Marika Hughes on Cello.
• Upon completion of the recording, Bowery Boy Blue began another transformation, this time expanding from a solo recording project to a full-fledged Band, when Gould officially joined forces with the aforementioned Sam Crawford on lap slide and lead guitar, Christian Rutledge on drums, and Michael Trepagnier on Bass. In anticipation of the release of Stalk that Myth the quartet has continued to forge it’s own sound and solidify it’s standing as a collaboration intent on creating an identity as a foursome. With this in mind they have already begun writing and recording the collection of songs that will comprise their follow-up to Stalk That Myth.
